$112 Million Contract Signed for the Construction of Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan Stadium in Tanzania

Posted on : Thursday, 28th March 2024

Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda are co-hosting the 2027 AFCON, Africa's largest international men's football championship. In preparation of that, Tanzania recently inked a $112 million agreement for the construction of the anticipated Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan Stadium in the Arusha region. The signing ceremony took place at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

During the event, Tanzania's Minister of Culture, Arts, and Sports, Dr. Damas Ndumbaro, confirmed that, among other venues, the future Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan Stadium will host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals.

The proposed stadium is going to include two VIP sections on each side, with one section allocated for government leaders and the other for senior corporate executives. In addition, the Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan Stadium would also include offices, halls, a museum, and other facilities. This proposed massive stadium in Tanzania is expected to be open on a daily basis rather than just for match events.

The Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan Stadium will accommodate 30,000 people. The stadium will be built on 14.57 hectares of land. It will also meet the requirements specified by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA, the world's regulatory organization for football.

The Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan Stadium will be developed and constructed by China Railway Construction Engineering Group (CRCEG). Once the stadium is completed, it will host football games, commercial activities, and even official government ceremonies and events. This upcoming Dr. Samia Hassan Stadium will also serve as a tourist destination in the region, encouraging tourism in Arusha, often known as the safari capital, and serving as a new landmark.

The stadium's design is inspired by Tanzanite and Mount Kilimanjaro, and its colors will be based on Tanzania's national flag. "The overall architectural style of the Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan Stadium is fairly light and simple, and it perfectly integrates the natural surroundings and the culture of Tanzania," noted Zhou Zejun, the head engineer of CRCEG East Africa. A large-span steel framework and a cantilever structure will also be incorporated into the stadium's architectural design, covering all of the seats and providing fans with an incredible clear view of the stadium's activities during events or matches.
